Oxyfluorfen 23.5% EC is a broad -spectrum,selective herbicide that controls annual broadleaf and grass weed in various crops, including fruit trees, vegetables, and field crops. It works as a diphenyl-ether herbicide with both contact and residual action, applied pre-emergence or early post-emergence. The herbicide inhibits an enzyme essential for weed cell membrane function, and its effectiveness is enhanced by sunlight. Common brand names for this formulation include Adama Galigan, Indofil Oxygold, and Dow Goal.  

How it works:
    • Mode of Action: 
      Oxyfluorfen belongs to the diphenyl-ether group of herbicides and inhibits the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO). 

    • Cellular Damage: 
      PPO inhibition leads to the buildup of phototoxic substances that, in the presence of sunlight, create harmful oxygen species that destroy cell membranes. 

  • Weed Control: 
    This results in cell membrane breakdown, desiccation, and the eventual death of weeds.
