Pretilachlor 50% EC is a pre-emergence, broad-spectrum herbicide used to control annual grasses, sedges and broad-leaf weeds in transplanted rice crops. It works by being absorbed by the germinating shoots and roots of weeds, preventing cell division and inhibiting growth before weeds emerge. It is applied shortly after transplanting rice, typically within the first 0-4 days, in fields with 2-3 cm of standing water to ensure effective weed control for a long duration.

Key Uses:
  • Weed Control:
It is effective against a wide range of weeds, including tough ones like barnyard grass and jungle rice, which are common in rice fields.

  • Pre-Emergence Application:
It’s applied before weeds germinate, making it a crucial tool for preventing them from emerging and competing with the rice crop.

  • It’s specifically designed for use in transplanted rice, ensuring a cleaner and healthier crop.

How It Works:
  • Absorption: The herbicide is absorbed by the weed shoots and roots as they germinate.
  • Mode of Action: It belongs to the Chloroacetamide group and inhibits cell division and the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids in germinating weeds, preventing them from growing.
Application & Management:
  • Timing: Apply the herbicide within 0-4 days of transplanting the rice crop.
  • Water Management: Ensure there is 2-3 cm of standing water in the field at the time of application and maintain it for a few days to help the herbicide spread and control weeds effectively.
  • Application Method: It can be sprayed uniformly over the field or applied by treating dry sand with the herbicide and then broadcasting it.
